Hi! I got my brother's 2000 Tahoe LT from him for a deal too good to pass up, he bought it new and isn't the type to ever wrench on himself, but it has always been well maintained, just turned 260k miles but the 5.3 still pulls strong as ever, always fires right up, etc its a great truck and LOVE the LS motors, there was ONE issue he never bothered to get fixed and that was when the AC quit working, he thinks maybe three or four years ago and he needed an oil change anyway so took it to the stealership and here's something you'll see rarely if ever, the "service salesman" must've had a migraine or something because when my brother said he was there for the oil change appt but that also the AC had just quit but everything else related to climate control worked fine and service guy says "yeah, we can check it all over if you REALLY WANT (meaning its gonna take forever so don't bother) and you know that often is big bucks (so you REALLY shouldn't bother!)" and my brother not being a big AC lover took the hint and said just change the oil then.
So, fast forward to today, its getting warmer here in Southeast WI and now my water pump has very quickly went from a tiny leak to huge leak, so I'll be putting a new water pump in and seeing the AC and water pump are on the same belt, I'm going to try to fig out what prob with AC is and I've done that before on 2 other cars, BUT I've got some crazy issues with the "Computer Climate Control" (the earlier one with the 3 knobs, NOT the digital unit on later models and the fan knob seems to work fine as far as fan speed goes and the "auto" setting seems to be working or trying to work and the vent selector knob on the right seems fine, BUT the middle knob for the temp is either all the way hot on any setting except for turned all the way down and if its all the way down, then it seems to cut out any heat.
Now, I see there's about 9 million threads here related to various climate control issues, I read through quite a few and couldn't find anything exactly like my issue and saw the words "blend door actuator" a LOT, but no clue if I'm yet another one of these blend door people or if I'd need to just get a new dashboard "computer climate control" unit or ??????
I'm thinking since I'll be doing the water pump Saturday and assuming my analysis of my AC equipment says I need to get a new compressor and recharge the system, I'd certainly want to fix this either ALL HOT OR ALL COLD issue too, or else why bother spending the $$$ and hassle, although it sounds like replacing the compressor isn't all that bad as compared to same job on many cars.
Anyone know what I must do or replace to fix the either ALL THE WAY HOT OR NO HEAT AT ALL ISSUE??? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
