I have an 02 tahoe with the 5.3 flex engine. When it starts up in the am it cuts out and doesnt idle right at all, but once it warms up it is fine. Almost sounds like it is going to die and them it will gain some rpms. Rpms goes from 500 to almost 100. What could be causing this? Any help will be appreciated.

Try cleaning out your throttle body and see if that helps!! If not, might be an intake gasket problem since it runs like crap cold and runs better when warm!

Not sure, haven't had to do one on my denali yet!! Try the throttle body cleaning first and see if that helps, the ones on our trucks are super picky about being clean!

will do. When you clean the throttle body is it just the piece that bolts on the front of the intake or is there more to cleaning it than that? Tahoe has almost 200,000 miles on it.

You could just do the quickie cleaning by taking off the air intake tube where it goes into the throttle body and clean off the butterfly and all that you can get to without taking the throttle body off. Be sure to hose out the throttle body as well pretty well and let it sit for a bit, might take a bit to start the truck but it will start!!

K i will work on it this week sometime maybe. I took it apart a little earlier today and the plate looked pretty clean. but i pulled the throttle body off and the intake was pretty dirty looking. How should I clean it out?

Can I spray the throttle body cleaner way back in there and take a towl and wipe it out or will the cleaner damage something if it gets in it?

I usually do a seafoam through the brake booster vacuum hose and while i'm letting it sit, I usually take almost a half of a can and hose out everywhere in there and clean off the butterfly and whatever else I can reach from there with a towel and such. After all of that, the truck usually doesn't want to start and sounds like crap for a bit but it will start!

x2 on the throttle body cleaning, buy the can for like 5 bucks and avoid the dealer and their price of 145.00 :uh:
