First off, I've been lurking for a few months and appreciate the info. I've diagnosed and had replaced my steering shaft and manifold gasket as a result of the info here.

I first posted this in drivetrain, but thinking interior may apply better now. I've got an '03 Yukon 5.3 2WD 99K miles. Live in Texas and we've had our version of winter over the last week. After some driving in the frozen stuff, I've noticed that when I select reverse, drive etc after start up or to park after driving, the little line in the indicator gets hung up in the wrong spot for a while or disappears all together. The transmission is going to the mode that agrees with the shift lever position, and it works as it should. However the little line that indicates which mode is selected is either in the wrong spot or missing at times. This must tie into the door locks etc as they don't do the auto thing unless I wait a little bit for the indicator to catch up with what's been selected.

I've searched as best I know how and can't find this particular problem. Is this road grime that maybe got into something underneath with linkage, or is this something internal to the shifter on the column/display?

I have similar problem and my gear stick dont feel that good.... its more "loose". But not. The thing with locking The Doors automaticly is disconnected on mine. Have you found a solution? My though is something around The steering wheel or maybe The wire. But Will look more tomorrow.
