So got a check engine light and scanner showed P0442. I replaced the gas cap since it was 17 years old anyway. So far the lights still on and I've now gotten a message to "Tighten my gas cap". Would replacing this purge solenoid be the next logical thing to try?

Have you attempted a drive cycle? Here's a general procedure: https://repairpal.com/how-to-perform-a-basic-drive-cycle (doesn't reference fuel tank levels but I'm fairly certain that's a condition that is required on our trucks).

Another one: http://www.obdii.com/drivecycle.html

I'd recommend doing a "purge and seal" test with a bidirectional scan tool like a Tech 2. That can help you determine the cause. Lots of people shotgun the three basic evap parts (purge valve, canister, canister vent valve) but that doesn't always cure it. I'd recommend OE or AC Delco parts. And there are lots of good YouTube videos on testing, maybe look up South Main Auto or Wells

on YouTube.

OMG do not buy that dorman, buy an AcDelco one instead. I am not sure which one it was but I also replaced the gas cap and solenoid to fix the "Tighten Gas Cap" message.

A genuine Delco is only $22.00
