Looking at an 04 Tahoe and the cluster is out. No mileage or gauge function. My question is:

Is the mileage stored off-board in the BCM or PCM or only in the cluster? If I do need to swap the cluster, with the mileage be shared from some other module?

Or if the Mileage is only stored in the cluster, is it retrievable by someone like Downtown Radio?

I know the mileage is high, but would really like them returned and actual.

Thanks,

Nope. Mileage is stored in the cluster. Fixing the cluster is fairly easy if you’re good with soldering. It’s a common issue with this gen truck. The contacts points for the lighting that lights up the gear selection, info screen and all the gauges goes bad over time. More lights can be soldered in and restore the backlighting. Also a good idea if you’re already in the cluster to do the street motors that move the needles on each gauge. There’s a member here, @ScottyBoy , that Does it and does it phenomenally!

I have heard whispering that the mileage may be found in the ABS module somewhere as well. Unconfirmed.

Thanks for the input. I passed on this one at this point. Too many unknowns that could consume a great deal of my time on the back end of the deal.

I feel its worth spending a little more on the front end on one that has a better chance of less time put in on the back end. I only have a couple months of time and available space to get a project truck road worthy, before I get busy and fill up my shop space.
