Hello everyone!
I have been having some issues with an 05 Tahoe with the 5.3, non flex fuel. Last Wednesday, my wife got gas from a fly by night gas station. The next day, the check engine light came on. It was driving fine and was going to research it over the weekend. Friday night, it started an occasional miss and then stalled in an intersection. It started right back up and continued with the occasional miss and stalling. I took it to Autozone on Saturday and they read the code as just P0442. They said it recommended the charcoal canister be changed. I did that along with emptying the fuel tank, adding some fuel dry stuff and filled with premium. I also cleaned out the small evap canister connected to the charcoal canister. I added some fuel injector cleaner to the gas and cleared the code. Fuel cap o ring looked fine as well. The truck seemed fine the remained of Saturday and Sunday. Monday it started acting up again but no CEL on. It continues to occasionally miss while driving mostly but sometimes while stopped. It has stalled a few times while the wife was driving it. I was driving it last night and when it did miss and almost stall, I laid into the gas a few times and it seemed to clear the issue for the next 20 minutes of driving until I got home. It seems like it happens at all times of the day and there is no noticeable time of day, length of drive or temperature when it's occurring. Was hoping to fix the problem myself before sending to a shop but didn't want to spend too much and not get anywhere. Any ideas? Thanks

Check the purge valve and the hose on very top of intake manifold . My cover rubbed against the hose making a hoke. Sometimes the valve gets crushed under the cover. Verify its not cracked, is properly seated in hole.

From the description of the onset of your problem, it sounds like you could also have a fuel filter problem. Maybe others on here will know how to verify your fuel line pressure.

I would lean this way as well. An old fuel filter gets clogged and causes the pump to work harder and can cause premature fuel pump failure. When a pump starts to go, rarely does it happen all at once like shutting off a light switch. Usually there are signs that some people don't pick up on and then they get stuck somewhere. Get a mechanical gauge on the fuel system and see what you got. P0442 code does not recommend changing the charcoal canister. It recommends to check the evap system and the usual culprits are a fuel tank cap or hoses but requires checking the system properly, like with a smoke machine. The fuel pump may be fine but I would still check it. Good luck.
