I am trying to determine which part I need to replace to get my front heater to properly work (climate control). I suspect I need a new AC Heater Control Module, but since I need to order one over the internet and they are non-returnable, I am hoping to confirm this is the best part to replace to solve my problem. Here are the symptoms and what I have tried to date:

The heater blower no longer functions although you can feel heat coming out of the proper vents when the heater is on (same for passenger and driver side). I cannot manually turn up the fan blower either; it is non-responsive.

Yet my climate control functions perfectly when in Air Conditioning mode (set the temp below air temp and the blower and AC come on and function perfectly on both driver and passenger sides). This tells me there isn't a temp sensor issue, or blower issue.

So I removed the AC Heater module, and found part number 10367041 marked on the part. All looked ok, so reinstalled. I was then surprised to find that the module worked properly after reinstallation (blower and heat worked as they should). Next morning the heat blower was again nonresponsive despite the 34 degree morning temps.

I read to remove the fuses to reset and recalibrate. Tried this and again the module worked properly until the next morning startup.

I removed the module from the dash once again, and this time disassembled it to look for loose wires or obviously blown parts. Saw indications of overheating where the wires connect the circuit board to the wiring harness connector (browned wires), but all wires were landed properly and not melted, nor were any parts obviously blown. I reassembled the control module and reinstalled. Again, it worked fine until the next morning startup!

Then tried disconnecting the battery cables and touched them together for 30 seconds per dealer instructions to discharge any capacitors, and then reconnected. Again the climate control worked perfectly until the next morning.

So it seems that maybe some component is getting too hot and trips some control module to where the blower won't function until it is reset.

Do you think I am correct to order a new AC Heater Control Module or should I be trying something else first?

Dealer said to pay them $115 to diagnose, but there is less than 80% chance they will be able to determine the problem from this test, and likely will throw parts at the problem. I would rather save the money and throw parts at it myself with those odds, especially since I can find the part online for half the dealer cost, before also paying for diagnostics and labor.

Is there anything I'm missing, or another component I should be looking at? Thanks!!!

stay away from the dealer....look around and you'll find a good independent shop that will charge less to diagnose and they will actually diagnose it. dealer techs drive me nuts. if they cant plug it in to a machine and have it say exactly whats wrong, they are too dumb to figure it out w/o throwing parts at it. they are all that way. on our old car we took it to a dealer to have them suggest parts i had already replaced...and they started suggesting parts to throw at it. i found a good independent shop that does our patrol cars service...and they actually took 3 days to take things apart, they did replace a couple sensors but that didnt fix it so they took them back out and didnt charge me for the part...all in all they fixed it right for less than 150 bucks. they actually spent the time diagnosing it like mechanics...not computer technicians which is all dealership techs are.

ok didnt mean to get that far into that rant...if u want to fix yourself, it sounds like u are on the right track...but i dont know much about these HVAC systems so you can post that the wizzitwassit needs to be replaced and i'd probally agree hahaa..

good luck!

Fixed

Well, I wasted the money on the new AC Heater dash panel, but fixed the problem when I found out that the AC Heater control module is attached to the blower motor housing. Replaced this and the problem is fixed! Still cost me less money than sending it to the dealer, and I learned something in the process.

Now if only I could figure out how to remove the inside rear quarter panel that houses the auxillary heater AC. Does the black knob that the cargo net attaches to unscrew? Help!

ciao,
Marc
