07 Headlight Issue.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I just had a few questions. Hope y'all can help. I bought a used 2007 Tahoe LS SSV 4x4 a few months ago. Which has been a pain ever since I got it.

These are the current issues I have with it.

1) Service charging system came on about 2 weeks ago and the Tahoe would loose almost all power at any stop. I stopped by an Autozone and I was told the alternator was bad. I had the alternator replaced that day. Problem solved, well so I thought. This morning while dropping off the kids at school. Light came up again this time no power lose though. What can be causing this to happen again?


2) High beams do not work. I push the knob to activate the high beams and nothing happens with the lights. Only the high beam light in the cluster lights up. What could this be? This has been an issue since I bought it.


3) Last night I came out and unlocked the Tahoe and realized that the right headlight was out. So I went to the corner store I parked and that's when I noticed that now it was the left headlight that was out. So they basically switched. Well by the time I made it home, both headlights were back on. What can be causing this to happen? This happen the night before service charging system came on. I'm not sure if they have anything to do with each other.

I am not an expert on anything electric, or anything else for that matter ...
But my thinking here is that since this is an SSV vehicle it might have once had law enforcement/emergency light modifications ... perhaps they did a poor job when they reverted the truck back to stock?

This is obviously a pretty serious safety issue, especially with kids in the vehicle ... I think you will be best served to have a dealership take a look at it and get to the bottom of it once and for all, even if ends up costing you a little more. Hopefully it's just a matter of bad wiring or some other minimal root issue.

I would start with making sure the battery terminals are very clean and free from corrosion, and also that the battery cables are in good shape.

I'm wondering too if it might be an issue with the switch.

Oh dear...

Pushing the "knob" isn't turning on your hi-beams, thats turning on your foglamps. It will light up a green "lamp" indicator on your instrument cluster.

Your high beams are activated by pulling the stalk (where you put your turn signal indicators on with) towards you to flash, or away from you for "on." That will result in a blue lamp icon on your instrument cluster.

Unless you are explaining it wrong...

In the event that you are, sounds like whoever had the tahoe before you might have had an HID kit in there and did some nice rig job in there, and possibly removed the hi-beams from the truck completely.
