Hi, I have an 07 Tahoe with 49K on it. I just took it for it's longest trip, about 7 hours. 5+ hours into it we started to notice a strong odor from time to time. At the next rest stop I couldn't believe how strong it was. Smelled like burnt 90W to me. I checked all the fluids and all were OK. I got underneath and noticed a leak in my tranny pan and a front axle seal but they weren't to blame. Source of the smell was definitely in the rear. The smell remained for the entire rest of the trip. Made an appointment as soon as I got home for the smell, tranny and front seal. The dealer fixed the tranny and seal (2days) but TRIED to tell me the smell was normal venting and it was OK. I COULDN'T DISAGREE MORE!!!! I've had two Silverado's and an Avalanche and NONE have ever don this. The ODOR is not normal. 90W is bad enough... try cooking it also.
I did some searches and found the bulletin below. The dealer says it not real.
My question is.. Has anyone had this problem and can anybody authenticate this bulletin. HELP!!!!
