So my transmission went out and needs to be replaced. Took it into a local shop and was quoted $3800-4375.00 total. Never had to have a tranny replaced before. Does this seem like a reasonable quote?

That is too much. I would even go so far as to take it to a chevy dealer and see if they will beat it. We've got a guy here in charleston, sc that does them for $1000 and our local club has a transmission party and everybody helps to put it back in.
See if you can find someone who will doit for $2500.

What kind of trans? 4L60e or 6L80e? For that price you can get a fully built 4L60e and have it installed....

And since you will have it out might as well upgrade the common parts that fail on 4L60e's if thats what you have. Like sunshell, etc.

The sprag is another known bad part. That is way to expensive. I had a 4l60 replaced in a 2002 z28 a few months ago will upgrades for 1650 installed and a 1yr warranty. And that was at colman taylor.

SW CT,
When my '07 Tahoes went the first time I did alot of upgrades so it could hold more power...even with a bunch of aftermarket goodies I paid well under that quote you got.

Id take it to the dealer.

My 07 Tahoes transmission went out and even tho my warranty was out gm paid half of the new transmission because it had a leak that was common for the 4sp

It wouldn't hurt to try the dealership. That quote is way too high.

I know a lot of places will give an outlandish quote for work that they do not want to perform, whether it be laziness, work load, or other...essentially scaring you off.
