In the middle of the night my horn is going off on its own. It chirps a couple times then keeps honking. Any ideas why?

Short answer: your battery is probably almost at the end of its life.

long answer: is the alarm aftermarket, how old is it, how old is the battery in the truck, have you or anyone done any work to your yukon recently, did you check anything out under hood, did you turn up sensitivity on alarm, is it raining, windy, do you have squirrels running around, do you live by a highway, are there kids running around at night..... i can keep going but a little more info would help us help you bud.

First thing I would do is check your battery, 9x out of 10 the battery is probably just about toast.

No kids, animals in sight but the battery just died in it. Hopefully that’s it but seems strange to me that the battery would make it go off like that. There weren’t any other circumstances as it was off when my son woke me but upon going outside it did it again. thank you for responding.

I had a 2007 Silverado that decided it wanted to blow its own horn as well. As soon as I would turn the key off, the horn would go off. Turn the key back on, horn would stop. Had to pull the fuse to get it to stop. Turned out my fuse block under the hood was super corroded. Your situation sounds a little different from mine, but might be another possibility to look at if a new battery doesn’t solve your problem.

Welcome to the Forum from NH. Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their experiences and perspectives.

Give those two initial suggestions a look and let us know the results.

Does it follow the pattern of an alarm going off? The "warn away" part of car alarms has the horn chirp a few times. The regular alarm then blows the horn and flashes the lights. Is this what you're hearing or something more irregular? The latter is probably the battery like Pete said.

How long have you owned this truck? Could it have an aftermarket or GM Accessory alarm? If not sure, the GM Tilt Sensor mounts on top of the BCM bracket under the dash in the driver's side footwell. The GM Shock Sensor is tie wrapped to a bundle of wires coming out of the BCM, it has a little white dial to adjust sensitivity on it.

Thank you, I will def check that as well. Hope it’s the battery and with a new one problem solved.

Definitely not an aftermarket and yes it is doing the chirps then horn regular. I have owned for 4 years and bought from my wife’s boss. I appreciate your help and everyone else’s. It’s great to get knowledge especially during the lockdown.
