I bought it a month ago. There is a slight pause after the first engagement of the starter then it continues like normal. I know the previous owners and they took it to 3 places last summer checking it out and concluded it is normal function. To me it sounds like the starter us dragging a bit. The battery is good. Takes a charge from the plug in charger. Alt puts out plenty of volts and the fuel is fine. 92k miles on 5.3. Does anyone else's do this?

Not normal. What do to mean by slight pause? It engages then stops and starts again?

Typing the sound out... crank. Craaaaank. Crank crank. Then it runs. This is turning the key and holding it once. Takes about 1 full second to start up. It's not horrible. Just not normal.

Is it ok after the first start? Kind of sounds like coolant leaking into one of the cylinders

Yes. Always starts right up. Just that little quarter second drag.

I have heard this before on the older 5.7s.

Never knew what caused it though

skipbrack,

Hello! I understand that you are seeking advice about your vehicle. I might not be able to give you any technical advice but if your concerns lean you to a visit at a dealership, I would be happy to make that process as easy as possible. Please private message me if I can be of any assistance.
