Hi kids,

I'm looking at a 09 Yukon with 52k and AFM. To be honest, the AFM doesn't sit well with me. A coworker had problems with this 09ish Silverado, luckly it was covered under warranty. I assume with this being an 09 with 52k, that it has no warranty. After doing some reading, it seems there are alot of issues with the AFM with oil consumption and replaces lifters.

What are your thoughts on this system in a hoe/kon? How hard is it to shut the feature off and does it become a non issue if you do?

Pull the service records and see if there is any indication it may have been drinking oil. If not bbt can tune your truck and take out the Afm and you should be fine. If there is any indication it may have already suffered from it move on to the next one.

If the rings are shot, the only fix is to replace the rings. It's really not a common issue, it just gets more attention online because a lot of people join forums specifically for issues.

You may have some warranty left. Depends on the date it was put in service. Well within the mileage, just gotta see where that vehicle stands on the 5 year mark.

The carfax doesn't indicate any service related to the AFM. And it looks like it should have warranty until May of 14. I live in So Dak so I don't know if a BB tune is really on my list of options. I have talked to a couple mechanics and they said there's not one known common issue with the AFM, in other words there's nothing to be worried about. The nice thing for me is that the truck has been sitting on the lot since Feb so they're ready to deal or so I hope.

You need the dealer service records. Anything done under warrantee will be available. Ask them for them. It has been under bumper to bumper warrantee until recently so anything related will show up there.

Good luck.
