I have a question regarding the 12V outlets in the dash: how would I go about rewiring them so that they are "on" only when the truck is turned on? In other words, right now, the sockets are always live, and I want to change it so that they shut off when I turn my truck off.

I often use my GPS that plugs in, and charge my Zune and cellphone while travelling, and don't like the idea of leaving them powered up all night.

put a relay spliced in the circuits that can switch it on or off. and trigger the relay with switched feed. for accessory position tap fuse 11,17 or 34. for ignition on switch tap fuse 25 plenty of amps on that one. ground the coil to the dash somewhere. fuse protection as required.

Exactly what I was going to say.

I would hard wire the GPS/Zune power plugs for a cleaner look, but that's just me.

Thanks sunlit, I was wondering what fuse I could use there. I'll post pics when I get around to it.

I was going to hardwire the GPS, but wasn't worth it to have a lead sticking out the top of my dash when the GPS is in there less often than not. I set it up only when I travel.

1 amp for coil protection and ten 15 amps for the powered circuit. that should should be more then enough for your plugins. mount both upstream of the relay.
