16's or 17's

So for my 95 hoe, i have a choice i can go with my stock 16's or take the 17's off my 2006 hoe. any reason to choose one over the other?

I plan on doing a 2 inch index lift and 1 inch block in the rear. i'd like to run bigger tires on the rims once that's done (285 -305's if possible)

well the bigger the rim the more $$$ for the tires. So if you want to save some $$ then go with the 16. IMO

Take it from experience:

The price difference between a 16 inch tire and a 17 inch tire will surprise you. Safe estimate would be a difference of $55-$85 per tire. I have a set of 16 inch (Ugly wheels) on my Tahoe now (See picture below), and I have a set of 17 inch wheels in my shed, and the only reason I haven't purchased tires already is because the extra cost of tires on a 17 inch rim is killing me.

I agree 100% with the previous posters... bigger wheels = more $$$ for tires.
You can run a 285 or 305 very easily on 16s - very common setups.

sucks, but everyone is right...I run a 17 and I want a 20 but that is not happening

so i guess the consensus is us the 16 because it saves me about 160 bucks on tire cost, but essentially everything else is the same performance wise?

Let's back up a minute and answer the "what are you planning to use them for?" question.

Based on what you've described thus far, sounds like you're after a certain look with some possible flotation (off-roading/mudding) needs. That being the case, 1" in wheel diameter isn't gonna make or break you either way.

If you were looking at lower profile tires (35-50 series rubber) then we could make a different argument (corner carving for example).

Given the two sides, I'd make the call based on tire pricing (16s win) - assuming that's an issue for you. If not, then go with what you want.

I'll use them for light to medium off roading, and everyday driving. pretty much the same as i've been using the 06 hoe for. nothing to extreme, old log trails, access trails, the occasional mud hole.
