Hey guys. Curious about some tire options for the OEM 17" wheels. I guess I'm old school and really don't care for the look of the newer 18-20" wheels on a lifted 4x4. I'm probably going to stick w/ the OEM 17" wheels for a while, then upgrade to either OEM 17" steel PPV wheels, or maybe something similar in aluminum alloy like the Level 8 Tracker.

I don't have a Z-71, so I don't have the funky valance caps that would need to be trimmed way down...but what would I need to do in order to clear a 33.5"-34" tire like a 285-75-17 Terra Grappler? Is tire height the bigger factor in fitment, or is it the width?

What are the most common interference points that need to be trimmed/modified to stuff bigger tires?

I've searched a little but since most of you seem to be running 18's, it's a little harder to compare.

Thanks!

You wont be able to fit 16s. Wont clear the front calipers. If you want to go with the PPV look, Cragar soft 8 would be a perfect chioce and they are inexpensive. Thats what i use for my winter wheels. I lowered and run oem tire size and rub only in full lock in reverse. As far as stuffing bigger tires, that i cant help you with

Not talking about putting 16's on the Tahoe, sorry for the confusion there - I was just referring to my preference in wheel size vs tire size. All the tire sizes I mentioned for the Tahoe are for a 17" wheel.

I'll edit the first post for clarity.

Ok guys, lets simplify this. I find it hard to believe that nobody has thrown bigger tires on their Tahoe.

Who has put bigger than OEM size tires on a stock 17 inch wheel? If so, what if anything did you have to trim?

Bueller?
