1999 2-Door Tahoe - Foundational Upgrades / Preventative Configuration

Hi,

After a 6-month search, I Found and bought Winston my new 2-door Tahoe.

Pretty much a stock 1999 2-Door Tahoe LS with 4x4 push button / 5.7L Vortech.
Winston's got 140K miles with a brand new remanufactured transfer case and 20K on the transmission.

Wife isn't too happy - nevertheless I have little maintenance history on the car and need to spend money for "must do" upgrades from stock and preventative maintenance - ALL To Save Money Down The Road.

Question: What upgrades should I do - for example is the stock Vortech setup efficient of should I change the injection or distributor mechanisms? Pics am in Northern VA - should I go ahead and get a rust protection sprayed on - what do you recommend?

If it runs well and you are saving money.....leave it alone. Rust protection is never a bad thing.

X2 if it runs great and has no issues save it till something goes, you can POR-15 the frame and wells, rubberized undercoating or rustoeluem

first and foremost is give it a good visual inspection outside the engine and inside the valve cover to look for obvious issues. next fluid maintenance and analysis of all components and fix any issues along the way. the fuel injection upgrade would be ideal and if the dizzy gear is worn replace the gear. grab a haynes manual and follow thru with every preventive maintenance item it has listed.

Went ahead and got a couple 45 point inspection and flushed out/replaced all fluids.

I'll have to read up on the dizzy gear and will perform recommended checks.

Only items left on the list following inspection....
1. The passenger seat belt does not lock at the waist (neither does driver and passenger at the shoulder but that may be the design) - so I'll have an independant switch out the passenger seat belt assemblies (due to no locking waist).
2. The left hand reverse light is not working - changed bulb...no joy. However, right hand circuit board/bulbs work when switched to Left. I figure it's the left hand reverse light circuit board (looks brand new compared to the right). Is this common issue?
A. POR-15 will be a good summer project for me.

Bad circuit boards for the rear lights are pretty common. I've had my rig for 10 years now and have changed both circuit boards at least once, maybe twice. Both times for the damn reverse light. Everything else worked fine.

Nice rig. Looks like we will both be coating frame this year. Had same problem w/wife. Let her have the garage to park, she'll get over it.

How can you tell if the dizzy is worn without removing it?

for the gear you have to pull the dizzy or it would be removed if it turns out the intake or head gaskets had to be replaced.

Ok, I plan on replacing my intake gasket after finish rebuilding my front suspension.
