2/2 drop questions

Ok so I am looking to find parts for a 2/2 drop on my 98 tahoe 4 door 2wd. I understand I have 2 options up front. Drop spindle or drop spring. So that is my question is should I use the drop spindel or the drop spring. From looking at the front control arms it looks like a 2 inch drop spring would make them close to level. Question is will it be alignable? Is there a camber adjustment on the front of these trucks or is it going to cause the front to be cambered negitive to far? What are your experiances and which is the best option to get a better ride? Also what is used to lower the rear? What brands should I be looking at? I have been looking at the DJM stuff. My plan is to do 2/2 drop and then use the firestone bags in the rear to help keep the truck level when I tow. I don't want to go any lower then 2/2 because I tow and any more will throw my tounge angle and weight off on the Boat trailer. Thanks for any help

As you stated, you can run either spindles and/or springs...
A spindle drop will keep the factory geometry intact. You'll maintain a factory ride as the springs are still the factory rate springs. You also don't have to worry about changing shocks as there is no difference.

A spring drop will change the factory geometry, but it is still able to be aligned. Typically a spring drop will make the ride a little stiffer due to the higher spring rate. Depending on the amount of spring drop you may need to replace your shocks to handle the difference in height.

As far as the rear drop, the easiest way to drop 2" is with shackles. If you don't want to change shackles, you'll have to change the hangers (requires you to drop the fuel tank to access the bolts).

FWIW, I've got a 2" spindle drop (no rear drop at the moment, but have the shackles and 1" drop springs ready to be installed = 3/2 overall).

I did drop spindles and shackles on mine. 2 inches from and back.

It was align-able after although the service manual said there might be some keys that have to be drilled out that are supposed to be there from the factory ... mine didn't have those in there.

The hardest part about the shackles was getting a place to hang the truck from, most people use the axle and you can't do that when doing the shackles. You have to use the frame to support the truck. It literally takes about 5 mins to do the rear provided the bolts aren't seized ...

Either way I will need new shocks up front. I can't stand the monro reflex shocks that are on it now. It feels like they have no control at all over the reboud and compression. I don't know why I keep putting monro's on my trucks I have hated every pair.I may see if DJM has one for the spindle drop or just break down and buy some blistens.

Jack up on the spare tire. That should let the axle hang enough tk do what you have to. Or, if the hitch isn't in the way put a receiver in there and use that to jack on

You can jack and suspend the truck from the receiver, I wouldn't attempt that with the spare tire though ...

As far as the spindles, my truck didn't require the knock-outs to be removed. Springs will most likely require them to be removed.

As far as shock selection, check out Edelbrock AIS Performer shocks... I've been very happy with mine.

i have the djm spindles or springs and rear kit and djm shocks here if you need pricing. im good friends with both mark and mike at djm they hook me up :)

Why not? You don't jack directly onto the tire, you put a piece of 4x4 or a few 2x4's that go across the tire and use that

crazycrew... because the spare tire doesn't tie into the frame - it hits the vehicle underbody, which is not as strong. Not that it can't be done, but it's not the best location.
