I would run the 2 12's personally.

Cone area would be really close with a slight edge to the 18 (18=255, 2 12's=226) but I think the extra motor force would make up for it.

If your looking for that DEEP, punishing, feel of sub-sonics, that 18 will do it. But if you want a more crisp, hard hitting bass, those 12's are what your going to want.

What kind of music do you listen to? I would personally go with the 18 but I love deep bass. If its something that your going to be playing every day or for long periods of time I would do 2 15s. Cone area plays a large role in output but it also helps to have more subs to disperse the power.

How your sub performs is box dependent.
You will get the same low bass from an 18 as you would a 12. I hear that all the time that bigger subs are not fast and responsive. That is total BS.

The box will be the determining factor on the subs playing low bass, up in to the midbass, or some combination of both.

You should already know my opinion. I went from having 2 12's to an 18" and havent looked back since. Pretty soon you will be wanting 2 18's
