Hey, any help will be greatly appreciated.
I have a 2000 Z-71 (OBS). I bought it used a few months ago. It already had aftermarket HID headlights installed. These lights are also the DRLs. Now, every so often, when I am driving at night with the headlights one, they will flicker and resort to the DRLs and this can last for a few seconds to a few minutes. When this happens, I can not use my highbeams either. Also, but not everytime this happens, I hear a "short circuit" or sizzle noise from what appears to be under the driver's side dash. I was thinking it might be the DRL module or relay, but am not sure. I also saw several different relays model #s. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this. I am not opposed to somehow disconnecting the DRLs. I know this can be done by depressing the emergency brake slightly, but I was hoping for something else. Thanks in advance.

i pulled the fuse on my DRL's. light is still lit on the dash, but they don't come on.

i would take a look at the wiring on the front of the truck, depending on how they were hooked up theres probably a loose connection that may be shorting out.

I checked all of the connections, but everything looks solid. Which fuse did you pull?
Thanks

I found the Fuse, #15. I removed it but my problem is still there. When I turned my headlights on, they sometimes revert back to the DRL (the symbol is still present on the dash, though no lights come on on the front of the tahoe). This is driving me nuts....

If the system is similar in design as '99 or older removeing that relay oar module would only effect the low beam control as if the drl system did not exist. In a nut shell if you turn on low beam headlight switch and have no high beam control the headlight switch is not outputing voltage that, 1. goes directly to the dimmer switch and, 2. along the way applies the voltage on the same circuit to the drl module lamp feed terminal which the module uses to distinguish as headlamp switch on commanding the drl relay make the circuit act as if it has a direct connection from the dimmer switch to headlight bulbs(lows) to allow lows use. The headlight bulb output on the the switch will probably be yellow and and large guage compared to the others if you want to use a test lamp to watch activity in wire. The fuse number matches the function on the '99 so all the fuse did is kill the power feed directly to the head bulb lows thru the drl relay. So if lights on front don't light at all and the drl light stays on when head switch is on it is most likely the head switch is at fualt. Your description shows to match and agree with the '99 diagram and functionality so if you want to try using them let me know. I just don't have specific for 2000 up since this forum is normally 91-99 and I have a '96. Hope that helps. Blah blah blah blah blah......

I don't know if this helps, but I found a 2000 OBS Tahoe Headlight wiring diagram HERE.

The in cab circuit layout match the the '99 so the cause and effects should still apply. Thank you 99Yuk.

When turn on my healights and the DRL indictor on the dash is not lit, I do have control of the high beams. however when that short occurs, thr DRL indicator light on the dash goes on and I have no control of the high beams. The HID low beam/DRL stay lit.

Say your headlaps switch is turn on with high or low beams and while on this shorting problem pops up and the drl takes over then that has to be the headlight switch screwing up. With your headlamps turn on manually by you. The signal sent from the head switch to the drl module is faulting out on you making the drl module think that you turn off manual control of headlights.

2000 Tahoe Z-71 DRL flickering (SOLVED)

Thanks to everyone who responded and helped. It was indeed the headlight/dimmer switch (which is mounted on the left most section of the dash under the vent). When I changed this out, which took all of 10 minutes, the problem was solved.
Thanks again everyone.....
