I have a Chevy Tahoe 2002.

The Instrument panel (Odometer, (Gear display D, R, N..) , all gauges) stopped working on an intermittent bases and now have stopped working all together. The blinker lights and check engine light work fine.

I thought it was a ground issue. But there is continuity between the ground pin on the top of the instrument cluster and the battery ground. I checked continuity almost everywhere (battery to the: ground on the instrument cluster, the steering column cover, the back dash wall, and OBDII grond pins) and nothing is with issue.

Now here is the weird thing. If I take the signal ground (pin 5) from the OBDII port and connect it to the ground pin on the instrument cluster it works. However, connecting the chassis ground (pin 4) on the OBDII port to the ground pin on the instrument cluster does not work. Both pin 4 and pin 5 have continuity to the battery ground. Also if I connect pin 4 and pin 5 on the OBDII port the instrument cluster works.

I also tried to run a ground wire directly from the battery to the ground on the instrument cluster and that does not work. Like I said above, I have continuity from the battery ground to the ground pin on the instrument cluster.

I am stumped as to what is going on. I assume it has something to do with the BCM but that is just a guess.

Any ideas would be great to hear.
