Hi All, I've been searching around on this forum and love all the info provided. I'm looking to purchase an 2001 2-owner Tahoe Z71 with 150k mi's on it this coming week and wanted to see if there's a buyers guide or if anyone knows of any pitfalls I should avoid. It seems pretty well taken care of and has new rotors, pads, brake fluid, along with a nice service history in the file.

I drive around 8k mi's a year and most of that is city driving locally.

I used the search feature on the site and I did read about the 03 Yukon tranny but nothing about the Tahoe. I've always had NNBS lifted Silverado trucks so this is foreign territory for me.

Any guidance or information you can provide this newbie is greatly appreciated!

If its a 5.3 it will have the 4L60E tranny which need rebuilt usually between 75k-150k. I own a 00 Yukon slt with airride and I not only hated it but it leaked so I put in bilstein shocks front and rear and lowered it 3/5 on staggered tires. In my 00 I noticed fit and finish a little lacking but I'd figure in an 02 and up those issues would be fixed. Only other issue I've had is speeding tickets. I ported throttle body, gutted exhaust, custom program and hotter plugs and wires. I have a 95 Chevy truck with little over 400 hp to te wheels and I feel like my Yukon is faster and stronger running and both have same gears. So overall I don't think you can go wrong with buying a nbs Yukon.

That's actually a good point - it is the 5.3 and from all accounts seems pretty well taken care of. The driver seat looks like someone took a machete to it so I need to get that fixed but it's relatively cheap.

The tranny does have me a bit concerned though...guess I'll have to drive it around for a day or so and see what it feels like. Hopefully it's not exhibiting any of the signs and won't be for another 40k mi's or so.

Outside of the seats though, it seems like the consensus is that these are pretty reliable as long as they've been maintained.

your 2 big concerns should be the trans and the 4wd(asumming its not awd). go through all of the 4wd options 2hi, 4hi, 4lo make sure it doesnt bang hard in and out. and give the trans a nice series of test to see if its good. other than that basic wear like said above. the drivers seats always get pretty bad depending on the owner. my old 5.3 yukon had 131k when i sold it and i would drive it from NJ to Cali any day of the week. there really awesome trucks if taken care of
