First of all i apologize if this is in wrong spot.. i searched and didnt find anything, and my first post here, so i apologize ahead of time..

The vehicle - 2002 GMC Yukon XL, 4x4, 4L60E transmission, 200k miles.
The initial Problem - Driving hom and heard a high pitch spinning noise from tranny, almost like someone squeezed trigger on a cordless drill, for a brief second.. no issues noted with tranny other than noise.. Parked truck, and later went to use and no Reverse, all other gears worked great.
Solution - removed tranny, took to GM certified mechanic, had rebuilt including new bands, seals, etc.. ISSUE was Sun Gear and Shell - Teeth wore off! all was replaced with new.

reinstalled tranny, hooked all connections up, and added 4 quarts of fluid. Started truck, and began working the transmission thru the gears to help circulate fluid. After a few minutes and left in park at normal operating temperature started to check fluid level, nothing on dipstick.. added a quart.. repeated this process over a 35-45 minute period, every few minutes check fluid and added as needed.. at 7 qts in and still not showing on stick we added a 8th qrt.. Fluid Level then showed over full (about 2 inches above top mark of full when hot).. However the transmission is not even turning driveshaft..

We placed rear end on jack stands just to get wheels off ground by 1 - 2 inches, and nothing moving. No leaks found around or on tranny.

we did notice initially that the gear indicator in dash did not follow position of the shifter, Park was Park (only gear right on dash), 2nd position turned indicator off and showed nothing, 3rd click showed reverse, and subsequently showed one gear off throughout gear selection, as we return back towards park it remained one position off, then off in reverse and back on when went into park.. this was initially, and after a few trips thru gears and pausing for 60 seconds in each, it began to work right.. dont know why, it just did.. no adjustments or anything, just started working.

still fluid registering high on stick after 8th quart, but nothing on was on stick at 7th quart.. fluid and tranny should have been at operating temperature as it had been close to an hour of running, but still no luck. then it happened - we hear what sounds like a faint clicking, almost a very quiet version of the gear selection lever getting caught between two gears.. Truck was immediately shifted into park, which didn't seem to stop noise and truck was immediately shut off...

Now we are at a loss of what to check from here and are hoping for some help.:emotions122:. We have a new MLPS and will probably try it.. any other suggestions?

thanks in advance for any help and sorry so long of explanation.

Welcome!
Sorry to hear of your let down. Maybe the guy that rebuilt it could at least give you some phone support? I don't have any advice, other than the obvious of running over all your steps and make sure everything is installed right.

Update..
replaced the MLPS (neutral safety switch) with a new one, rechecked all connections, ground straps, etc. Lowered truck off all jack stands and set level on ground. Restarted truck and still it does not appear to be picking up fluid or pump working. No gear selection seems to change anything. No odd noises.

The on dash selector does act different than described originally. Now the dash indicator shows P, R, and N appropriately.. but when all gears (D.3,2,1) are selected the indicator stays at neutral. When you return to N, R and P it appropriately indicates those gear selections. All fuses and connections have been rechecked and still no changes. Battery was disconnected (pos and neg) when changing out switch.. also disconnected after noticing above gear selection issue in an attempt to reset everything. still no changes.

truck will start in P and N, but no other gear. Even when we select D,3,2,1 and dash still says N it won't start til we actually put back into N or P.

any suggestions would be helpful.. we are stumped and hoping to not have to pull tranny back out..

Flo-Lop, you were correct.. after removal and inspection, pump stator shaft broke.. Picking up parts today to include new pump stator shaft, and ?Lower half rebuild kit? according to tranny guy.. hopefully its back together tonight and in tomorrow..

anyone have further suggestions of items to replace while tore down this far, to help this be more reliable in future.. figure now is the time..lol. it already has new clutches, steels, seals and gaskets, HD sunshell and gear, and band.. this vehicle is mom's taxi/daily driver, does not tow anything..

BTW- prior to removal the on dash indicator began working properly no missing indications or improper locations of indications.. so the replacement switch appears to be right now.. Had left battery disconnected over night to charge battery, when reconnected all functioned as expected..
