According to the specs I'm finding, my Z height should be 4.5 inches. I'm getting about 2.5 inches. Is this amount of sag normal for a 14 year old truck? Is it reasonable for me to adjust this? If I get a professional alignment, is this part of the alignment procedure? (I can feel poor returnability in the steering, and this would be affected by the caster, which would be reduced if the front is sagging.)

The height from the ground to the highest part of the wheel well lip is 34.5 inches, the rear is about an inch higher.

My Z-height wasn't as bad as I thought. l wasn't on the bottom of the knuckle. Still, it was about an inch too low. Once I got it back to spec (4.7 inches) I had to readjust the toe as I then had too much toe in. I should still get a professional alignment, as my measurements are good to + /- 1/16 inch overall toe in 12 inches.

Raising the front back to spec has also corrected the caster somewhat, so on-centre feel is much better.

I was ignorant of z-height until just a couple of days ago. (then there's D-height...)

GM doesn't give official specs for ride height like ground clearance. Instead, they use this ''Z-height".
This site probably explains it best:
http://workshop-manuals.com/chevrol...ations/ride/trim_height_inspection_procedure/

The following pages give excellent useful information, some of which answer questions asked elsewhere on this site.
