Hello, I have a 2002 Tahoe 4.8l with 121k miles.
About a month ago it started taken a couple seconds to start up. Now it is taking around 5 seconds.
If I turn the key on the off. Do that about 5 times it will start a little faster.
The first start of the day it starts up right away in the 20 degree weather but then if it sits for half an hour or more it starts slow.
It drives great but I do have bad gas mileage. I do 100% city and get between 9 and 11 mpg usually.
Does anyone have any tips or know what the problem may be?
Thank you!
Keenan

Also forgot to mention, I've always had that gas mileage since it got it 2 tears ago.

Have your battery tested
Battery read 12.4 not running so its not the battery. My dad thinks its the starter but he's not a mechanic so I just want to see what other people think before I replace it.

Just checking voltage at rest doesn't really rule out battery. Does it drop while it's starting? Before you do anything else, take it to autozone or whatever and have them check battery and alternator. It's free. If those check ok, make sure cables and grounds are clean and tight, then start with the starter etc next

X2. If you don't have it tested properly it's hard to track down a problem and you may replace parts that are not needed.

Thanks guys. I am not that great with cars. I don't have an autozone but I will take it to O'Reillys and have them do it.

Battery and alternator tested fine.
If I turn the key to on for a couple seconds then off and repeat that a fee times the car starts up a little faster but it still hesitates.

Update. Just took off the cap thing for the fuel regulator and my fingers got soaked with fuel. So would I just need to replace the regulator or the pump also?
