The AC/heater fan on my 2002 Tahoe Z71 only works on setting 4 and 5, settings 1, 2 or 3 do not work. Any idea what it could be? I can buy a new AC control panel online and they are pretty easy to switch out, but will that solve the problem? Or could it be the fan motor or some other relay in the system.

It's the blower motor resistor. Common problem but I've never replaced one. You can do a search here for threads on the replacement procedure.

That's what mine did when the resistor went bad.

Actually I did remove and reinstall mine when I installed a new blower motor. It's real easy, it's under the passenger side plastic cover under the dash. Remove the cover and it's mounted right there next to the blower motor. You'll want to get the part number off yours to match up, there's several different ones.

I replaced the resistor and it fixed the problem. I also replaced the blower motor while I was in there since it squeals sometimes. Thanks all for our help.
