I have a 2003 Yukon (5.3L 2WD) that was running pretty rough and quit a couple of times. I originally thought it was a fuel problem, and replaced the old pump and filter. After putting in the new pump and filter, the engine runs worse than before. The engine seems to do fine when pressing the accelerator, but it runs so poorly when idling it quits after a minute or so.

Does anyone know of a possible fix for this?

You need a PCM software update for low idle and you need to clean the throttle body.

I just finished cleaning the throttle body and MAF censor, and it's running a lot better. How do I go about updating the PCM software, is that something I can do myself? Also, the idle RPMs are about 500, is this normal or should it be higher?

500 could be normal. I suggest disconnect the battery for a few minutes, and reattach, it will reset the computer. Then drive it moderately and see how it does.
