We have 2 lights out on our instrument panel; one behind the oil pressure gauge, and one behind the temperature gauge. Dealer says the panel is not serviceable , so it needs to be replaced. I've called around and many local mechanics say that the bulbs can be replaced instead of the whole cluster. Any input as to who is right? Thanks!

From my experience working on cars most clusters have replaceable bulbs in them. The dash on these trucks is easy to take apart so personally I'd just pull the trim off and pull the 4 screws on the cluster and take a look. The bulbs are usually like 3 bucks where a whole cluster will cost you 100 on ebay so...

Thank you. We've been told two different things; 1) the cluster is sealed and inaccessible, and 2) that it is accessible by taking it apart. The cost will be over $400 to have the cluster replaced. Obviously bulb replacement is the optimum choice, but I'd hate to take the dash apart if the cluster is sealed.

Both answers are correct:

2000-2002: Easy accessible dash lights and change be changed to LEDs for cheap
2003-2006: Soldered in bulbs and you need to solder in each bulb

or you could send it to one of those people on ebay that do it for like $250 or whatever they charge.

yep.

dealers can't service it.

But, YOU can.

bulbs are about $2 each on ebay from digital_dash_solutions.

If you have not replaced all the gauge stepper motors, you should do them at the same time.

Thank you.

I've seen the pics of the instrument panels with LED's, and love the look. The dealer has decided to pay for the cluster replacement since they neglected to find the problem when they did their inspection. I'd still love the LED's though!

Do these replace bulbes need soldering because I bought 20 LED's for my cluster and they look like the LEdS used for the licence plate lights, did I get the right ones??
