Planning on a tune up of my new to me 225k mile Hoe. I plan on plugs, wires, oil change, and probably a coolant change. I've gathered that the 5.3s like the AC delco plugs the best so that's what I'll get. Iridium right? What's the recommendation on the wires, or should I even bother? I was looking at oil filters today a WalMart and I was surprised at how small the filter was. So I dug through the larger filters and it seems that an AC Delco PF61 (I think that was the one anyway.) should fit (same diameter "O" ring, and the mount is the same.), and have more filtering area due to it being longer. Do you guys ever try a different than stock filter? (I actually run a Ford 5.0ltr filter on my Jeep 4.0ltr because it's a bigger filter.) Also are the AC Delco good filters (I was actually surprised how cheap they where. Cheaper than Fram which I know are junk!), or should I stick to Purolator, Wix, or Mobil1 That I usually use? As far as the coolant is it ok to use the universal stuff, or is the DexCool what is recommended? Last, but not least. Am I missing anything?

Oil filters I use Wix or Mobil 1, along with full synthetic mobil 1 10w30. Plugs yes the iridium delco's. plug wires if the oem ones aren't bad don't change them. I have the msd 8.8mm they run you round $75. Yes use dexcool thats what these are supposed to use.

Yeah I run Mobil1 syn oil too. Tell me about the MSD wires. Are thy worth the money? You get any seat of the pants gains, or better MPGs with them? My motor is stock. I may some day put a intake on it. Probably a better flowing muffler on the otherwise stock system... Like you recommended though if the current ones are good I won't replace them. I need to get with the PO (bought it new), and see how long ago any of this stuff was done...

They are supposed to burn the AF mixture more complete. Do they? Idk. If they do you might get a little better gas mileage. I wouldn't know because I have a cam and all that so my gas mileage is doesn't exist lol.

I agree with Rudy, I have read a couple of articles that say that aftermarket wires don't really have any effect and that as long as they are quality wires they are all basically the same in functionality.

True, but he couldn't get a set of AC Delco wires where I work for the quoted above price of ~$75. Either. Closer to $120...120+

Whoa!!! $120 for AC wire set. Order them from rockauto for a lot less.

FWIW, www.rockauto.com has AC delco wire sets for $57 for the 9.2" ones or $60 for the 10.5" ones. My Tahoe took the long ones and my wifes Yukon took the short ones. It depends on which coil set up you have. Which depended on what GM had in stock when building your vehicle, the round coils or square coils.
Oil filters, I use purolater, but wix, AC, NAPA Gold are all good. Just stay away from fram.
Just my $.02
