Last week my brother and i installed a steering gear box on his 2004 suburban. The install went fine but he noticed when he drove it after the steering wheel was off like he needed an alignment. At first i thought when we put the steering shaft back on the gear box we might have turned it a few times and that threw the steering wheel off. So last night we disconnected the shaft and turned it about two times to the left and reattached it. Thinking it would center the wheel off, well it didn't plus his airbag light now is on. He said he heard a pop sound when he was backing out of the garage, not sure what that was about but on top of that his radio controls on the steering wheel don't work. He went to see a friend at the dealership to see if they can pull codes and help him out and from there testing they stated the coil in the steering wheel is the problem.
I don't see how it could have happened but it did so im asking if someone can help out and give me a exact name of this part. Is it called a coil or a clock spring? Also if any tips on how to change it or maybe what else it can be if this isn't the part i need please let me know.
Thanks
