My son has a 04 Tahoe 5.3 and the other day it popped and now it is missing, running rough, had it scanned they told him misfire on #6 cylinder and needed a motor put in it, he changed the coil pack and spark plug, and didn't help, traction control light is on, any idea's to try before an engine change.Thank You All.

I would check the compression and verify I was getting fuel to that hole, sounds like you already took care of the "fire" element.

Lots of things can cause misfires. Get it to a mechanic that can troubleshoot it, or at least tell you what the diagnosis is. "Needed a motor" is not a diagnosis.

Pull the passenger side rocker arm cover and see if the valves, springs, and pushrods are intact. If they are, then turn the engine over by hand with a breaker bar and see if/how those valves move on that side.

Sure will share with all, and I will try that and see if that may be the problem, I also heard that your can change out the cam and lifters to a delete cam oil system.

1. How did you determine that you have no compression on that cylinder? 2. Compression reading on #4 and #8? 3. Like @Fless said, remove the cover and look inside to see what is wrong. May be a bent pushrod. That would be an easy fix and no engine needed. Yes, please report back with findings and pics.
