Maybe I just didn't notice before.... Turning off/ remove key..... The wheel still turns.
My old '88 GMC truck, ..I would turn the wheel an inch & it 'clicked' locked.

Granted, with the truck off, it is not easy to turn the wheel...... But not locking?
Am I missing something?

Not from my experience. The steering wheel on my '04 doesn't lock, either.

Yea, I read here that starting with the NBS, I believe, the steering wheel does not lock. The shifter still locks and if has manual trans the steering wheel will still lock but with auto trans, since 2000, it is a no lock.

They must have changed and went back to locking at some point, because the newest models certainly have a locking wheel.

GM dropped it as a cost saving measure thinking that improvements in theft prevention reduced or eliminated the need. They were wrong and brought it back on the Escalades mid-way through the GMT900 generations, around 2010 or 2011.

Funny story. The shifter broke under warranty on my 2006 SV6 Montana. Got it back and noticed that the steering wheel didn't lock. Took it back, they worked on it for hours until they realized that this model (2005-2006 SV6 Montana) did not have a locking wheel either like the more familiar 1997-2005 Montanas! I never noticed either, it was always my habit to move the wheel to lock it and never noticed that it was not clicking.

Someday, I think I'll put an Escalade column in mine to get the lock back, I have no plans to replace it, indeed, I hope it outlasts me and I can pass it on to my wife and children in good order.

Both my 2004 Yukon Denali and 2002 Sierra are non-locking steering wheels. Took some getting used to at first.
