I have a "clunking" noise when I go into gear, mostly reverse, but I can also hear it when the vehicle shifts from 2nd to 3rd. Had it looked at by dealer. U joints, trans, everything ok. All fluids changed and everything serviced. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks. Just want to get it perfect since I just purchased used.

I have the same thing going on. (Sometimes) from park to drive it sounds like the tranny is just going to fall out and then coming to a stop when the vehicle is downshifting you can feel it every time from 3rd to 2nd gear.

U-joints can make a clunking sound even when they are good.

its probably either:
1.) you have a locking rear diff (check option codes in glove box). locking rears are not locked until they lock up (lol)....this can happen often in reverse because reverse is geared so low, so there tends to be a jerk when all that torque is applied and it locks the diff up.

2.) if it is the 4wd, make sure it is NOT set to auto (unless raining) on pavement...or at times it may try to engage or decide if it needs to and this can cause a clunk....not really damaging, but not optimal. best to stay away from auto unless it is a rainy day.

Almost certainly it is #1 though.
