The right rear door handle came off on my 2007 Chevy Tahoe. Door assembly still works. How do I put it back together?

Is it broken? How did it come off?

In any case you'd have to remove the door panel to get access to where the handle bolts in.

My daughter pulled on it thinking it was unlocked and pulled the handle off from the outside.

How would I take off the door panel or is this a job left up to a professional?

Thanks for your help.

I'm 16 and I've done the door panel many times. It's not so bad.

First, pry up the window switch panel and unplug the harness.

Then there are 2 covers on the panel you need to remove with a flat-head screw driver. One is located behind the inside door handle, it's a little hard to get to. The other one is behind the door pull, where you wrap your hand around to pull the door shut. In total there are 3 bolts.

Here is a diagram to show the locations:

After that, you unhook the door latch cable, some people use needle-nose pliers to do this.

Then the door panel will be completely free and you can set it aside.
