I have a 2007 Tahoe with 83,000 miles. I was at the shop doing the brakes today and was told that my struts are leaking and the upper control arm ball joints need to be replaced.

The struts are electronic and 2,000 for front and back which I am not inclined to do. The control arms are 700.

My question is are these two things that I need to do? Are there other options on the electronic struts?

Thanks

Jim

I always follow the rule to take it to an independent shop and have them check it out

If your bj's are shot I think that can be considered part of the drivetrain 5 year warranty and the dealer may replace them for free.

Anyway to know that for sure? Next month will be 5 years so if that is the case, I can take it in now.

Any thoughts on the "electronic" struts?

Take it to a dealer and ask if its part of the warranty . I know in most cars, the ball joint can be pushed out and replaced without having to replace the whole upper control arm. I would definitely take it to another shop for a second opinion.
