I have a 2007 Yukon and im looking to get another key made. has anyone done this without going to the dealer or a lock smith? just kind of curious if i can get a key cut and then do it myself so i dont have to pay the dealer. Dealer wanted like $50ish for the key then another $140 to program it. I found the un cut key online for about $20 just curious if its something i could do or not. Ive been looking online but cant seem to find a solid answer. I found online that to program the key you put the old key in and turn the key over until the gauge lights come on, wait a few seconds then take key out and do the same thing with the new key. Can anyone confirm that or tell me the proper way to program the key?

I would just let them do it because if you buy a already cut key they may not do it or it may fail you sometime

Wait are you serious they wanted $140 to program it??? There is a chip in the key so it def needs to be programmed but your dealership is just a DICK! I have been twice. Bought each key for $17 off eBay and went to the local GMC Dealership in Lafayette, LA. The first time I went the lady behind the counter just said yea I can cut and program it for ya.. she went in the back, did her thing, came back out and said "don't worry about it!" when I asked how much. Now THAT'S service!! Second time around, I had my significant other go in except it was a guy behind the counter and he charged her $20. She told him how it was free last time but he said "Sorry it's still $20"....... Weird how things change depending on the gender. Anyways bottom line $140 is a rip off!!!! Go to a different GM dealership. I did this for my escalade at a GMC dealership so it just has to be GM. Hope that helps bud GL!!

$50 is more realistic to prigram chip. Go to another dealer n see what happens

yes sir you sure can. that's what I did then just went to the dealership after for them to cut and program it.

Nice thanks. The auction says it includes instructions on how to program yourself which I'm a little skeptical of. I found a hardware store that will cut keys for me no matter what kind I bring them. Thanks!

Well they just cut it actually and then they came out to my car and programmed it. I watched them and it looked pretty easy. I forgot the exact steps but it's about as easy as programming a key fob.

Holy cow! Mine was $32 w/tax and they told me how to program it. I'd hit another dealer, yours is crazy.
