Hi guys..

I'm new in this forum and hopefully I can get some enlightenment on my Escalade issues..

I have 2008 Cadillac Escalade base model 6.2L V8 running 140,000km on mileage and
so far always replace my lube every 4000km SAE10-30.

In the morning or when the engine still cold it will make a loud tapping noise
during idle. It is sound very rough like diesel engine and the tapping noise was so loud.
After the engine got warmed the tapping noise will slowly disappeared, also if I pressed
the throttle during that loud noise and keep it in 2000rpm for about 3-5 second
the noise will gone as well..

During driving for about 10-15 minutes after warmed up usually the loud tapping noise
returned, and this time with the Low Oil Pressure warning. But it will also gone together
with the Low Oil Pressure warning after I stop the car - neutralized the gear - hold the
throttle at 2000rpm for 3-5 second.

Can someone advice me what happened with my engine? Which part I should repair or
replace? I don't want just to give the car to the mechanic, I want to know the problem
so the mechanic can do the repair straight to the object. Since July 2016 I heard a light
tapping noise from the engine which will gone after the car running or engine got
warmed, I did not do anything as the mechanic in my garage said it came due to bad
lube quality and will gone after sometimes. But since it getting loud it's getting worst
even I have flushed my engine several time using flushing machine and flushed oil.

I really need your advice guys, by the way I'm in the Middle East area thanks..

Sounds like the it could be the o-ring on the oil pickup tube where it goes into the oil pump. Apparently the rubber hardens with age and starts sucking air so you get no oil pressure and hence the loud noises as your valvetrain isn't getting any oil.

I have the same issue on cold start and the noise goes away if I rev it for a second and get oil pressure up, then oil pressure gets better as the vehicle warms up because the heat expands the rubber o-ring and helps seal it up somewhat. If it's not that it could be your oil pump. I'm about to tackle my o-ring this weekend (you have to drop the oil pan to get to it).

Can you let me know the parts number I should replace? If you have the picture is better.. Or maybe you can show me in this link, which one should I buy?

Thanks

Yep - see my reply to your post in this other thread, I posted a link to the part there (Fel-Pro 72401 is the brand/part).

It's also #406 in that link you posted but it looks like it comes in a pack of 5 and more expensive, I'd just go with the Fel-Pro.

It could be your oil pressure sensor as well. This has a screen that gets gummed up.

Why 1030 and not 5/30 oil?

Going back to spec 5w30 should help. Thinner oil at startup means better flow. Better flow means better lubrication. Thicker oil does NOT mean better lubrication. Its the film strength that provides the lubrication. In addition to what others said take a real good look at exhaust manifold bolts. They can rust and fall off leaving a gap in the exhaust.

Just an update - replaced my o-ring and fixed my low oil pressure and low knock at cold idle. Old o-ring was hard as a rock and split as soon as put a twisting force in it. Took a ton of pictures, guide coming soon.

Seto - any lick with yours?
