2010 Tahoe Transmission Troubles

my trusty Tahoe has almost 210,000 miles on the clock. Today when driving home from work it was driving along just fine. I stopped to wait for traffic to make a left hand turn in to my apartment complex. I stepped on the gas and the engine just revved. I put it in reverse, nothing. Went back and forth through park, drive, and reverse with nothing happening. I shut the truck off, sat there for a minute, started it back up, and it went in to drive and reverse.

Luckily I was able to pull in to my complex without issue. I checked the fluid level, it was a little low so I topped it off, it was also burnt.

I decided to take it for a spin around the block. Same thing happened. Drives fine, stop, then revs. Shut it off for a minute, back to driving fine. Is this a transmission or an electrical problem?

my 03 Silverado does that once a blue moon, but it also will sound like it is eating a can of nuts and bolts once in a while too, dam thing wont die.

burn fluid is never a good sign. sounds like its rebuild time.

you could suck some fluid out the dip stick and dump a qt of some trans medx, might keep it moving for a while longer if your nice to it.

Trans filter could be clogged. Time for a fluid and filter. Always do it first.

I am having the same issue with my 2012 at 126k miles. Mine is to the point of just dead. Starts up, sounds like a can of nuts rattling around until it warms up, then put it in any gear and it won't move, just had to have it towed to a shop Saturday.

What was the result in this bro? Im looking at 2010-2013's right now and trying to get as low as I can on the mileage cause I don't want to replace a transmission again :/

BTW - Sold the 04 Zhoe last weekend... also :/

the 6l80e's are pretty good in general if drivetrain issue's are a concern just buy a powertrain warranty and call it a day, either you win or they win

Well it took this shop 18 total weeks to fix, it still acts a little strange to me but maybe it’s in my head. So with recommendations from ATSG they ended up putting a pump and other required parts to make it work from a 6L90 trans and put them in my 6L80. It was an overall shit show. I basically have an entire new trans minus clutches because they were good.

He rebuilt this thing like 4 times changing a different part each time and finally this is what it came too. My advice, know the history and whether they pulled stuff and how much. Anywhere from 80k to 120k is the expected mileage for this issue and it is very common with these transmissions.
