So didn’t know where to put this post electronics or exterior. So bad habits die hard. Sorry ahead of time if I got it wrong.
So my 2011 Tahoe has no back up camera.
I want to replace it. Do any of you have an opinion on what I should purchase? Should I use OEM for that year. If you have the part code that would be great thank you.

The part number depends on the color of the vehicle or get a plain one and have it painted to match. The camera does not come separate from the applique. If yours has the secret rear window release, make sure you get one with that too.

Plug in your VIN over at GMPartsGiant.com.

I just ordered the button release. Lol I thought that hole was for the camera but it didn’t make sense why it would be there. I Would wonder why the key fob was the only way to release the back window. Now I know. I’ve since been studying the back camera mounting through online photos. Recently got off work and looked at where the camera indentation is but to my slight surprise there are no holes where the camera would or should have been mounted. In fact it looks clean as if the Tahoe never had a camera. Which on an LTZ Z-71 seems odd but not impossible.
I’m not worried about the color most use a black housing which matches all the plastic parts and goes good with grey. What I’m worried about is installing. If it never had a camera what lines or connections do or will I need. I’m getting a flat screen navigation/radio car play how will the camera integrate with radio/camera. I’m thinking of Alpine and going to Best Buy. Any thoughts. Sorry for the long winded post but I’m putting the pieces together for this Tahoe.

I hope I understood most of your replay.

Thank you.

The camera mounts in the square hole in the center, it is plastic welded through those four holes around the opening. I used RTV when someone tried to steal mine and broke the applique. Got a new applique and transferred my old parts over. You can order a wiring harness for the camera but not sure how that will work with your aftermarket unit.

Thank you. I am having a hard time understanding. On my Tahoe there is an indentation the shape of what the mount for the camera would be. There is no hole or four holes for the mount. If it is molded in that indentation how does it work. I can’t imagine how thats done. What tools do you use to mount the camera. I’m so sorry this should seem so simple I just don’t have the experience. If you have pictures that would help. I am going to have someone do this for me but I’d like to know more.

Again thank you.

If there's no indentation, then it did not come with the camera. You can see the 4 holes in this photo. A new applique with the camera is north of $500 last time I checked.

The original camera had plastic tabs that went through each of the 4 holes. A hot blade of some kind was used to heat the tabs and melt them into the holes to secure the camera, much like we did in building plastic models as kids. Since my tabs were already melted, I used Permatex Clear RTV to secure my camera to the applique after someone tried to steal it. The camera view is slightly higher now and you can see a part of the bumper when you could not before. Someday I'll pony up the $500+ for the new one. It'll probably be $700 then!
