Hello,

I have a 2012 Yukon Denali with approximately 30k miles. I purchased the vehicle brand new and we have never had any prior mechanical problems with it. We were in the process of loading our luggage into the vehicle to go on vacation when I noticed a very loud pinging, knocking noise coming from the motor. It sounded like someone was inside the motor with a hammer. We ended up having to borrow another vehicle to drive to the beach and we had our vehicle taken to the GMC Dealer. The service manager has called and states it appears the motor needs to be replaced as it sounds like a rod has broken inside the motor. The service manager is waiting on GM to give the authority for engine replacement vs rebuild. Has anyone heard of any engine issues with the 2012 Yukon Denali? It has been babied and driven by wife mainly around town. I was in disbelief when I got the call from the Service Manager indicating the motor needs to be replaced with such low miles.

i remember that same call on a 1998 S-10 i bought brand spanken new like 7 miles on the odometer when i left the lot
and by 9000 miles right after its 3rd oil change the lifters started tapping real bad because it was out of oil when i took it to the dealer and they ran a compression test and found one of the cylinders had literally no compression so they called and were informing me they were either going to replace the block or rebuild the motor

Thank you Jennifer.
It was actually one of the service advisors that contacted me.
I am really surprised more than anything about the motor issue.
I have sent you a PM.

That's crazy. I'm on my 4th GMT900 and this has never happened. Hopefully you get a new motor from GM for free :)
