Hello,

My 2012 5.3 Tahoe made it down the block before dying. Now I have low fuel pressure about 15psi. Thinking I have a bad fuel pump. This there anything else I should check before I go replacing it?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

You have very low fuel pressure for sure. Does it even start at all with that pressure? How many miles on that engine. I see a new fuel pump and I always recommend a new relay when doing the pump. In fact, try a new relay now and test again. Are you saying that the pressure is constant and the same on multiple tests?

It will start, chug and then die. I have about 162000 on it. It was pretty constant and 10-15psi. I was able to hit the bottom of the fuel tank just before I had to go to work and it started a ran, wasn't able to get the fuel pressure checked at that time. I couldn't fine the fuel pump relay. Are you talking the fuel pump module?

Thank you

My fuel pump relay is in the box under the hood. Everything points at the fuel pump though. Your owners manual will pinpoint the correct relay and the cover typically has the same info under it for the relay location.

The fuse box under the hood as a label for a relay but no relay. I notices this a long time ago when i had issues with the automatic head lights. Not sure if this means anything but i think it was a government vehicle.

+1 that the behavior points to the fuel pump - a fairly common failure point on these trucks with high mileage.

160k is the expected (estimated) life of the gmt900 fuel pumps, I'm approaching 155k on mine and will probably throw a new pump in it this spring before we head out on some family trips this summer, made that mistake once already and had to have a pump installed in the middle of the desert on a trip

Well after I hit the tank with a hammer the pump came up to 45-50psi. I was able to find a fuel pump guess there on major backorder. Going to be installing the fuel pump in the next few days. I was concerned about the it being the fscm module.

Thank you to everyone!!

Consider having a new electrical pigtail ready to replace yours in case it's looking like it overheated or the pins are not what they should be. Easy to do while you're in there.
