Hey folks
Question about a starter.
I had my starter fail on me on Thursday. My truck is a 2015 LTZ.
I called the dealer to send me up a replacement. Had it Friday morning. I went out to change it Friday night and noticed it was a little different from the original starter I removed from the tahoe.
The original starter is numbered "12655055"
The new starter is numbered "12695760"

Everything lined up except the end where it inserts into the flywheel. The new one was significant larger.
I called the dealership before they closed to confirm the numbers and they assured me I have the right one.
I had to enlarge the opening on the plastic dust shield covering the flywheel in order to have the bolts line up. After that, the installation was a breeze. But, when I start the truck it now it has a loud ticking noise.
Hard to describe but it sounds similar to the sound you get when trying to start your truck with a week battery. But the truck starts very strong and only makes the noise once its running. Once its started, the starter does not stay engaged either. I can see the gear sitting still.

Anyone else ever run across something like this?

Any updates? I just replaced my starter and it’s doing the same thing that you described. Starts string but the ticking sound is terrible.
