2015 Tahoe Stuttering on Accel.

I was ready to lease a new Tahoe (2015i), but when I test drove it, it has a stutter (almost like it was missing on one cylinder) at moderate acceleration. The salesman drove it and noticed it too. It is in the service department. The car was right off the truck and had not been prepared by the service department, other than checking fluids (still had protective plastic on paint and plastic on seats). The salesman blamed the lack of a full going over and dealer prep by service department. Could this be something that would be fixed during dealer prep in the service department? I like the car, but don't want to buy into a bunch of headaches? Ever heard of anything like this? ECU learning ??


Would you all wait for a 2016 to avoid the 1st year gremlins.

Mine I just got on Saturday kinda does something like this between Shifts, almost like a Stumble.

I'm guessing it's because it's Brand New so all the Computers are Learning and the Components are getting broke in.

We have had a couple come through out dealer with a bad injector.

Thanks Max and JR. It felt like an injector issue, plug wire, timing, jetting (if it had a carb), or maybe something in software.

I spoke to the sales guy and he said service did the prep and inspect and he test drove it and he said it is fixed and not doing it. I don't know what they do in service for a new vehicle, but it could have been a plug wire or a injector, or software. These things are so complex who knows. It was only when accelerating moderately. I am not very trusting, but he said they have a 200 point checklist (hard to believe) so maybe part of that process fixes it or maybe they replaced an injector. Maybe they do a software update at the dealer. Who knows.

That was the only issue, it is under warranty, and I can tell if it is fixed when I test drive it.

It is still making me wonder though.

I too have experienced previous for tahoe 2015 adverse events that the agent recognizes that it looks normal

As a follow-up, I test drove again last night after dealer prep/service. It was substantially better. Only noticeable at low acceleration levels. I think it may be part of the break in processes, but not sure. First test drive was od was at 8 miles, 2nd was at 32.

I also test drove another Tahoe with only 20 miles and it was doing same thing so I think it may be either fuel management or just break in issues. I may also be sensitive to this issue as in the past I would adjust my motorcycle cams and adjust jetting for altitudes/temp so any engine issues like this I tend to notice (because something is not right).

I have 10k miles on mine and it has done the same thing since I bought it. It didn't get any better. Curious to what your dealer did.

I think he wrote in his post he was not exactly sure what the dealer service did injector, plug wire, computer reprogram. I believe I read about this issue on another site with the 5.3 pickups and it was an injector issue, I am sure you could do a Google search. If your Dealer has already worked on you vehicle and did not fix it I would go to another Dealer or contact GM Customer Service. Good luck.

As an update, I ended up buying the vehicle. A second test drive showed much improvement. I have about 2k miles now and it is about gone. Still does it sometime but not nearly as bad, but I think (meaning guess) it is just the software attempting to save gas. if I get into the throttle, it does not do it. Maybe being miserly with the fuel under load and light throttle. Again, just a guess. It is not as bad as the first test drive so maybe it was the dealer prep or getting more miles on it, new gas, break in. I don't know why but it is must better than before and barely noticeable.

im just curious but as soon as this stutter or hesitation was noticed in the vehicle i was test driving id tell the salesmen to go get keys to another tahoe comparable to the one i just test drove and see if i noticed the same symptom
i would never buy a brand new vehicle that wasnt functioning flawlessly on the test drive
