My wife's Tahoe is a 2017, 5.3L, with approximately 127k miles. No major engine issues with it so far since we bought it used about 6 years ago. I keep up with basic maintenance with it (plugs, wires, change oil, filters) since we bought it.
A few weeks ago it developed a miss that you can feel, but wasn't throwing a code or showing up in the misfire count on torque pro. Finally it showed up the other day while we were driving up the interstate. It started while accelerating to pass someone and flashed the check engine light for maybe half a minute, then it went off. We turned around and drove home. You could feel it now clearly that it was missing and it would buck from a stop.
I checked it with the scanner and it showed cylinder 5 misfire. So I tried the following:
Swap plug wires from 5 to 3 - no change, still showing on 5.
Swap plugs from 5 to 3 - no change, still showing on 5.
Swapped coils from 5 to 1 - magically the miss has moved from 5 to 1.
Great, I feel like I have found the problem in the coil. Get on rockauto and order new GM wires and a new Delphi coil.
Parts come in and I replace them. Now cylinder 1 has a miss count of 152 on torque and 3 has a count of 10. You can feel the misfire, but it's no where near as bad.
I swap the new coil over to cylinder 2 just to check it. Same result. Cylinder 1 misfire is the same.
I'm beyond confused. The misfire is only on one side of the engine, but seems to have no logic. Any suggestions on where to look next? I have access to anything torque pro can pull up as far as sensors go.
