So my truck has always seemed to start slow, I wrote it off by not knowing any different. Today it was really slow and popped off my electronics (radio). I stopped by Auto Zone fully expecting a bad battery only to find that per their machine, its a bad starter. Go figure I'm 600 miles outside of warranty.

The starters on these are normally pretty bulletproof, Id say to put a battery in it or hook a jump box to see if it gets better.

Idk man in my 15 with only 60k miles had a bad starter. I went with my gut and bought a battery and even replaced the short power cable that apparently goes bad…. $250ish wasted. Put a starter in and it was night and day. 100% starter in my case

There’s actually a couple threads that’s surfaced this past year about the starters slowing down. Most people doubted it but it ended up being the starter

If you are sure that you've got a good battery (had it bench load tested somewhere), and you are sure that your cables and connections are clean and tight (including no corrosion under the battery cable insulation by the connector lugs), then you should consider purchasing a new starter.

the starter on my 18 has always sounded weak, I have window shopped for the HD version but just haven't bit the bullet yet.
yes there are 2 versions they go by watts or amps I believe it's been a minute since I looked into it, you can tell visually by the shroud and design of the solenoid

Auto Zone put their machine on it and it shows bad starter. I have one that will be here today.
