Hey guys, new here and I'm looking at picking up a 1996 Tahoe 4x4. The problem is that the truck has 276k on it right now.

The truck is freshly re-painted and starts and runs like new (Exhaust smells a little rich, but doesn't seem to burn oil or coolant. I haven't driven the truck yet, but I will be later this week (It was still torn apart for paint). The shop that has it doesn't know the history or maintenance done, however they say that it runs and drives great. I'm going to assume that the motor and trans have both been gone through, but is there anything I should look at to know for sure?

How do these things hold up to the miles? Any common trouble spots I should look into?

Thanks
-Rob

With that many miles, if that tranny seems like its shifting fairly well. Then it def has had some work done to it. Along with the engine. If it runs strong, not bogging or anything than there is a good chance everything has been gone through.

These trucks are known for piston slap. So, when you start it up listen closely for a rap rap rap sound.

Also, Get the VIN. Worth the $25 IMO
