2wd Offroad Problem. Any Suggestions?

Whats up guys! I'm new to this forum, but read it all the time so excuse any technical something i've missed haha =) I Have a white 2wd 2001 Tahoe with 265's. Anyone have any suggestions to make it more offroad compatible? I get stuck all the time and i'm having to stay on the lower size tires because I travel so much. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

Open rear? Could get a locker but that would not be cool for driving ont he road alot. MY Advice would be to just go buy an old 4x4 beater.

You'll be hard pressed to make it really "capable" offroad without 4WD...but I would say some moderately aggressive tires, some weight over the rear axle (sandbags or something in the cargo bay), and a TruTrac like Hoe mentioned, and you'd see a big improvement.

Unfortunately, without any power going to the front wheels you're pretty much SOL for anything but basic trails...although you could always get a winch bumper and a winch and hope for the best! :pepper:

if you cant get a bigger tire.. getting tires with a more agressive tread really would make a difference. also learning how to drive in bad conditions is really important. when you start to slow bogg where it almost stops try to immediately put it in reverse and drive backwards for a few feet then put it back in drive and try again.

say your on slippery clay try creeping slowly

if your not already going fast flooring it is a bad idea.

you can also try tricks like if your on slippery conditions like clay you can use a bag of cat litter and poor in front of the tires to get traction when driving over it or roof shingles work real well also if its soft conditions you can get some 2 by 12 boards and lay them down to drive over this will give you a larger foot print and give your tires something hard to grab.

one real good investment would be a comeAlong or a hand ***** that works like a big ass ratchet tie down and straps and keep them in your car for when your buddy isnt there to pull you out.

most 4x4s are only 2wd... 1 in the front and 1 in the rear. :)

What do you mean 'more offroad capable' "get stuck all the time" etc.

Are you mudbogging, running dirt roads, trying to rock climb, desert/beach running???

You need a Detroit Locker though to get real 2wd instead of 1wd.

yeah what are you wheeling in? LSD / POSI lower gear, tires that are more for what you wheel in a programer or tune so the pcm knows it has a lower gear. I live in the city now but grew up in the country. I can take a Ford Tempo places Big ole 4X4's cant get cuz of know how. and knowing my rides!

No i dont have a tempo either! lol

Thanks for the replies! Basically, what i mean by offroad capable is most times I go to my farm when there's mud, I somehow end up stuck. I need new tires as it is right now so i'm sure that doesn't help very much =)) Do you think all-terrain would be my best bet since I do so much on-the-road driving? I thought about getting a winch to help me out too but I don't see how i could get one on the front of my truck because I already have it full with lights. Maybe I should look into that hand winch! I wish i could do more offroad trails and mud rides..but the constant getting stuck has kind of pushed me away from it =((

mud... what kind?

clay/gumbo? forget it. tall and narrow tire + need 4wd to dig the front end thru.

sticky, maybe.

sticky black mud = wide tires and stay on top., locker or good posi, and learn to read the ground and stay ontop.

Best thing is to simply improve your roads with a blade + sand/gravel.
