A local car audio store was having a tent sale yesterday so I picked up a couple of subs and an amp. Thought I was getting a hell of a deal but now I see I have a problem. The dude swore up and down that the subs were 4 ohms. When I got home I looked up the subs on the internet and saw that they were 6 ohms. Hooked up my volt meter, 6 ohms. My amp is 2 and 4 ohm stable. The question is can I hook up these two subs in a series and run them at 3 ohms? Will it screw up my amp? Will it sound like shit? I don't know much about this stuff so cut me some slack.

If they are 6 ohms each, you can wire them in parallel to present a 3 ohm load at the amp. Wiring them in series will give you 12 ohms. Your amp will put out a little more power at 3 ohms than 4 but will not run as hot as if it were playing at 2 ohms, so you're good.

JK beat me to the punch... and he is very much correct. Also... adding another of those subs for a total of three, and wiring them in parallel, would present a 2 ohm load at the amp.

Alright thanks guys. One more question. The terminals on these subs are a spring type terminal. The hole that you run the wire through is pretty small, probably 4 gauge at most. How can I wire the subs together with these terminals?

And Trey, the subs are just some cheap Concept 10's. Nothing special but they seem pretty solid considering what I paid for them.

just twist your wire ends together where you stick it in the first subs terminal. amp + to + on speaker 1, then from speaker 1 + to speaker 2 +. just twist the wire from the amp to speaker 1's + to the wire going to speaker 2's +. repeat for the - terminals also.

I forgot about those. Those are really good subs.
