305/65/17 too big?

So I just recently got a great deal on some BFG T/A 305/65/17 tires. I am trying to put these tires on stock GMC's 17" which is a 7.5 rim. I just left discount tire and they said they couldn't mount it because it was too wide for the rim. Is anyone running this setup or can anyone tell me if it is possible to run this setup?

It can be mounted. Go to a different tire shop.

Is it dangerous to ride it? I saw that BFG suggests a 8.5 rim.

it will be fine. The beed will seal just like normal

Go to a tire shop thats not a chain store. It can be done.
