Looking to get some flares for my '96 4-door Tahoe, but the only sets I've seen are in the $400 range. My truck is used for work, and I don't want to drop that kind of coin on something I really don't need. $200 is about the max I want to spend.
I've cranked the torsions up about 2-2 1/2", and hogged out the front fenders to clear the 285/75/16's on MB Motoring Blitz wheels (thanks Discount Tire Direct!). In the rear, I've slipped 3 extra leaves in the spring packs, increasing the load capacity before bottoming out, and gaining about 3" of lift. The tires stick out a little over an inch in the front, which I actually like the look better than stock, but I want to cover the cuts I made.
Can I take a set off a Suburban or Yukon XL, and modify them? I do sheetrock for a living (as a General Contractor), and have done a little bodywork before. I was thinking about mounting the 'Burban flares over the rear doors, and cutting them along the door gaps. Then, I'd use spray foam, and make them more rigid. Finally, I'd 'glass a layer on, and finish so they'd look nice.
Any thoughts?
